Watercolour of a Hare

Starts Monday 24th September 2018

The course will help you to learn about watercolour and using experimentation techniques to create an effective and beautiful painting of a hare. I will go through a step by step method as well as provide individual support throughout the lessons. The course is suited to beginners and intermediate. The course is limited to 12 spaces.

Monday 24th September: The first session will focus on an introduction to watercolour and experimenting using different techniques

Monday 1st October: The second session will focus on creating a sketch of the hare on to watercolour paper and developing colour mixing with particular focus on greens and brown shades and tone.

Monday 8th October: The third session will focus on applying white masking fluid and painting the background wash. Each process will be demonstrated.

Monday 15th October: The fourth session will focus on applying the background detail of the image and the background colour of the hare

Monday 22nd October: The fifth session will be focusing on the detail of the hare and adding detail to the foreground.

The course covers the cost of room hire, tuition and materials. I will provide all materials for this course apart from the oil paints. There is plenty of parking at Lincombe Barn and the room will be in Page Room for all of the sessions.

Course length: Five evening sessions starting Monday 24th September, 1st October, 8th October, 15th October, 22nd October.

Botantical Watercolour course

Starting Tuesday 25th September

Feeling autumnal?  Then get stuck in creating a beautiful triptych of the Palace’s foliage.  Over 4 weeks, you will create 3 beautiful paintings of the plants in the grounds of the Palace. The paintings will be small scale 12cm x 12cm allowing you to focus on detail and once completed you will be able to frame them in the frames and mounts provided so that they are ready for display!

The course costs £100 and includes all materials including 3 white picture frames.  This course will have you working from direct observation and get you thinking about depth and detail in the nature around us. You will also receive 10% discount voucher for The Bishop’s Table Café.

Sketching tour at Bristol Zoo

Sunday 7th October 2018

Come and have a fun filled day out at Bristol Zoo and learn new skills along the way! The sketching tour will enable you to loosen up your drawing skills as well as learn about different techniques such as continuous line drawing, hatching, negative shading, timed activities and mark making. Just look at how cute these Lemurs are a great starting point for some life drawing.

I will go through a step by step method as well as provide individual support throughout the day. I will demonstrate a variety of techniques to use with sketching materials ranging from using a fine liner, a biro, chalks. The day is suited to beginners and intermediate artists and anyone that just wants to have a fun day out and is okay with animals staring back at you! At the end of the day you will have several sketches which you can be proud of.

You will need to bring an A4 sketchbook preferably ring bound as its easier to work with. Everything else will be provided for a fun and enjoyable day at the zoo!

Entrance to the tour will start at the Clifton Pavilion on College Rd.

Acrylic course

Starts Thursday 8th November 2018

Come and create a beautiful painting of a cockerel. This is a fantastic course for acrylic and is great for beginners and intermediate. You will be shown how to create a wash for the background, tonal properties and how to apply acrylic paint to your canvas. I will go through a step by step method, demonstrating each new technique. All materials will be supplied apart from the acrylic paint. This course needs a minimum of 6 people to go ahead.

Thursday 8th November: You will create  rough sketch of your cockerel onto canvas and then apply a wash to the background

Thursday 15th November: You will start applying colour to the background of the cockerel

Thursday 22nd November: You will start focusing on the mid ground detail

Thursday 29th November: You will add finishing touches focusing on attention to detail of the feathers, light and dark tones.

The course covers the cost of room hire, tuition and materials. I will provide all materials for this course apart from the acrylic paint. There is plenty of parking at Winscombe Hall and the room will be in Amesbury Room for all of the sessions.

Lino print your Christmas cards!

Starts Tuesday 6th November 2018

Fancy doing something creative and Christmassy? This fun four-week course will give you the chance to create your own beautiful Christmas cards and wrapping paper. You will look at a range of images for inspiration to aid you with your design. Gemma will go through a step-by-step method showing you how to create your design and transfer it onto a lino block.

Tuesday 6th November: The first session will focus on creating your lino design. You will look at a variety of images for inspiration and are very welcome to bring along some of your own images to help with this. Gemma will show you how to create your sketch as well as examples of work to show you the process involved.

Tuesday 13th November: The second session will focus on transferring your sketch on to the lino block as well as a demonstration about cutting into the lino

Tuesday 20th November: The third session will focus on finishing cutting your design and start the printing process. A demonstration will be shown at each process.

NO CLASS Tuesday 27th November

Tuesday 4th December: Finish printing cards and start printing wrapping paper. Using brown paper as the background you will have the opportunity to create repetitive patterns using your lino block. Your wrapping paper will look unique and stylish under the Christmas tree!
