Acrylic course

Starts Thursday 8th November 2018

Come and create a beautiful painting of a cockerel. This is a fantastic course for acrylic and is great for beginners and intermediate. You will be shown how to create a wash for the background, tonal properties and how to apply acrylic paint to your canvas. I will go through a step by step method, demonstrating each new technique. All materials will be supplied apart from the acrylic paint. This course needs a minimum of 6 people to go ahead.

Thursday 8th November: You will create  rough sketch of your cockerel onto canvas and then apply a wash to the background

Thursday 15th November: You will start applying colour to the background of the cockerel

Thursday 22nd November: You will start focusing on the mid ground detail

Thursday 29th November: You will add finishing touches focusing on attention to detail of the feathers, light and dark tones.

The course covers the cost of room hire, tuition and materials. I will provide all materials for this course apart from the acrylic paint. There is plenty of parking at Winscombe Hall and the room will be in Amesbury Room for all of the sessions.

Course length: Four evening sessions starting Thursday 8th November, 15th November, 22nd November, 29th November 1.5 hours (7.30pm – 9pm)

Lino print your Christmas cards!

Starts Tuesday 6th November 2018

Fancy doing something creative and Christmassy? This fun four-week course will give you the chance to create your own beautiful Christmas cards and wrapping paper. You will look at a range of images for inspiration to aid you with your design. Gemma will go through a step-by-step method showing you how to create your design and transfer it onto a lino block.

Tuesday 6th November: The first session will focus on creating your lino design. You will look at a variety of images for inspiration and are very welcome to bring along some of your own images to help with this. Gemma will show you how to create your sketch as well as examples of work to show you the process involved.

Tuesday 13th November: The second session will focus on transferring your sketch on to the lino block as well as a demonstration about cutting into the lino

Tuesday 20th November: The third session will focus on finishing cutting your design and start the printing process. A demonstration will be shown at each process.

NO CLASS Tuesday 27th November

Tuesday 4th December: Finish printing cards and start printing wrapping paper. Using brown paper as the background you will have the opportunity to create repetitive patterns using your lino block. Your wrapping paper will look unique and stylish under the Christmas tree!

Ram oil painting

Starts Monday 14th January 2019

The course will help you to learn about oil paint, learn new techniques with application and help you to create a beautiful painting of a Ram. We will look at the artist Graham Sutherland for inspiration. I will go through a step by step method as well as provide individual support throughout the lessons. The course is suited to beginners and intermediate. The course is limited to 12 spaces.

Monday 14th January: The first session will look at the artist Graham Sutherland, preparing a wash and sketch of the ram.

Monday 21st January: The second session will focus on applying colour to the background and background of the ram. I will demonstrate using a palette knife and brush to create texture for the ram’s wool.

Monday 28th January: The third session will on applying tone to create depth through use of tone to the face and wool

Monday 4th February: The fourth session will focus on applying detail to the horns, face and body

Monday 11th February: The fifth session will be focusing on the detail of the face and finishing touches

The course covers the cost of room hire, tuition and materials. I will provide all materials for this course apart from the oil paints. There is plenty of parking at Lincombe Barn and the room will be in Page Room for all of the sessions.

Course length: Five evening sessions starting Monday 14th January, 21st January, 28th January, 4th February, 11th February.
Session length: 1.5 hours (7.30pm – 9pm)
Location: Page Room, Lincombe Barn, Overndale Rd, Bristol BS16 2RW
