Still life in oils

Starts Monday 9th July 2018 

The course will help you to learn about the French artist Paul Cezanne, as well develop an understanding of working with the medium of oil paints. I will go through a step by step method as well as provide individual support throughout the lessons. I will demonstrate a variety of techniques to use with oil paint. The course is suited to beginners and intermediate. You will be creating a a still life painting onto an A3 canvas. The course is limited to 12 spaces.

Monday 9th July: The first session will focus on learning about the artist Paul Cezanne, discussing his work and the history of his life. You will create a sketch of the still life objects in front of you on to A3 paper.

Monday 16th July: The second session will focus on creating a rough sketch on to A3 canvas as well as to start applying your background colour

Monday 23rd July: The third session will focus on applying a background colour to your objects

Monday 30th July: The fourth session will continue to develop your understanding of colour mixing, blending and application of oils.

Monday 6th August: The fifth session will be finishing off your still life adding highlights and tonal shading.

The course covers the cost of room hire, tuition and materials. I will provide all materials for this course apart from the oil paints. There is plenty of parking at Lincombe Barn and the room will be in Page Room for all of the sessions.

Course length: Five evening sessions starting Monday 9th July, 16th July, 23rd July, 30th July, Monday 6th August 2018.
Session length: 1.5 hours (7.30pm – 9pm)

Sketching tour

Changed to Saturday 14th July (instead of Saturday 23rd June)

Please also keep Saturday 21st July free too just in case the weather is torrential rain (you never know in England!)

This sketching tour is an opportunity to develop your drawing technique and skills. We will be visiting the beautiful city of Bath where you will learn how to capture the world around you, work in different mediums and become more at ease with your pencil and paper. All sketching materials will be provided apart from a sketchpad.

Included in the price is the following…

A visit to the Victoria Gallery to A celebration of flowers by Kaffe Fassett with Candance Bahoutti. His work is stunning, bold and beautiful and will hopefully excite and enthuse with your own sketches and art work when looking at the exhibition.

A cream tea at the Macdonalds Spa Hotel which includes sandwiches and scones. Yum!

A return taxi to the Bath Spa train station from Macdonalds Spa Hotel.

Itineary
9.45-10am Meet outside Bath Spa train station. This is central for everyone, with the bus station next to the train station and plenty of parking at both Southgate and Avon Street.

At 10am walk (9 minutes) to the parade gardens where we will have a go at continuous line drawings, biro and fine liner using hatching and cross-hatching. These will be 5 minute quick sketches. This will help loosen your technique.

10.30am visit to the Victoria Gallery to A celebration of flowers by Kaffe Fassett with Candance Bahoutti. His work is stunning, bold and beautiful and will hopefully excite and enthuse with your own sketches and art work. You will have the opportunity to draw some of the work in the exhibition.

11.15am walk (11minutes) to Sydney gardens 

Sit in the grounds of Sydney gardens and create sketches of nature and flora around you using charcoal and chalks. Taking sections of what you see making them abstract and enlarged. You will start of working quickly under time frames and then have 30 minutes of sustained drawing.

12.50pm walk (4 minutes) to the Macdonalds Spa Hotel for a cream tea which includes sandwiches and scones. Yum!

2pm complete some drawings in the gardens of Macdonalds Spa Hotel, working quickly initially on 5 minutes only per drawing for the first 30 minutes and finishing with a longer sketch for 30 minutes. 

3pm A return taxi to the Bath Spa train station from Macdonalds Spa Hotel will be provided.

I will go through a step by step method as well as provide individual support throughout the day. I will demonstrate a variety of techniques to use with sketching materials ranging from using a fine liner, a biro, chalks and colouring pencils. The day is suited to beginners and intermediate artists and anyone that just wants to have a fun day out in this glorious city. At the end of the day you will have several sketches which you can be proud of.
