How do I get better with my art?

Alot of my students come to my lessons with little or no experience of art since they were at school themselves. Most come with a lack of confidence and are critical of what they do. Firstly, you need to change the way you think about yourself and the experience of art. Art is all about practice. The more times you pick up a pencil, a paintbrush, sculpt, whatever your medium the better you will become and the more confident you will feel about your skills.

Start with an object you love. This helps you feel confident as it is an object that you enjoy viewing and therefore will enjoy drawing. Practice drawing that object every day in different materials. I have used a tea pot as an example of an object below but it could be anything. Make sure you change the angle from where you are drawing each day to make it more interesting and challenging OR just draw it from the same angle in different mediums. Either way you will notice by the end of the week your confidence and skills for drawing has improved .

Day 1: Teapot in pencil

Day 2: Teapot in pen

Day 3: Tea pot in colouring pencils

Day 4: Tea pot in felt tip pens

Day 5: Tea pot in chalks

Make sure you tag @greenfoxworkshops on facebook, twitter, instagram and show me how you have got on.
